A Letter from the Pastor (December 2015/January 2016 Chronicle)

Beloved friends,

We have decked the halls here at First Congregational – the church is looking beautiful and I am eager for us to spend our first Christmas Eve celebrating together. The holiday season promises many old favorites (id-e-o-o-o!) as well as some new highlights. Specifically, this year we’re moving to an unrehearsed pageant format. Our 11am worship service on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, Dec. 20, will be a time for us all to enter into the joy and wonder of the season as we don costumes and retell the story of Christ’s coming. No preparation is necessary – all are welcome and invited to participate. Come young and old and pick-up a costume right before worship in the foyer or wear your own favorite… did you know there were kittens and dragons in the manger? I think Spiderman may have been spotted too!

Looking toward the New Year, I feel we have an exciting year ahead – can you feel it? I leave each Sunday’s worship enthused by the spirit I feel building among us and by the potential of everything God is birthing in our midst – do you perceive it too?

One major initiative we will be launching early in 2016 is a new Church Directory that will include an online, password-protected version that you can download from our church website at your leisure; a free app for your mobile device so you can access the most up to date information anywhere, anytime; and the option of a printed hardcopy. We are also using this opportunity of information gathering to make much-needed updates to our Church Database realizing that whether you feel connected and informed, and how well the church serves you today and in future, depends on how accurate our confidential records are. We would greatly appreciate it if you could complete the enclosed New Church Directory Information and Photo Consent Form (on page 8) and submit it to Deborah Anderson in the church office, along with a photograph of you/your family. A snap shot or professional family photo to which you have reproduction rights, may be emailed to Deborah at danderson@akronfcc.org or brought to the church office to be scanned. All photos will be returned.

This holiday season, Steven and I send you and yours every good wish and prayers for a safe, blessed New Year!
