The spiritual lineage of the First Congregational Church of Akron traces to the Pilgrims who landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620 seeking religious freedom. They brought Congregationalism to America, the foundation of which was defending the right to individual interpretation of the scriptures and the belief that a pastor's role is to stimulate thinking rather than make rules
First Church is conveniently located in downtown Akron, on the corner of Market and Union streets. It is on the northern border of the University of Akron campus and is easily accessible from I-77 / Rt 59 and Rt 8.
