The Music at First Church concert series was established by Director of Music Valerie Thorson following the renovation and restoration of the church’s historic meetinghouse/sanctuary and 4-manual Casavant Freres pipe organ in 2006. Due to the music-friendly acoustic of the sanctuary, choirs and instrumental ensembles are eager to perform in the space, which has become one of the principal performing venues for the University of Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Akron Baroque Orchestra, and other ensembles.
Concerts are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Free-will offerings are taken at performances that either directly benefit the performing organization, a local charity, or the church’s concert fund.
