The First Congregational Church Ecuador Scholarship Program sponsors secondary school and college students from Agualongo, Ecuador. Agualongo is a hamlet, located a half mile west of the Pan-American Highway and two hours north of Quito, a modern capital city.
The scholarship program has been in effect for over 20 years. Each year it enables about eight high school or college students to attend classes. The students are genuinely appreciative of the positive impact their education has had on their lives and the community. Several have returned to the area to help their community grow and serve as role models. A doctor, lawyer, two nurses, bilingual teachers, Quichua-Spanish, and businessmen are active in the area and several have run for public office. Their efforts have completed the exterior of a health center in Agualongo and are currently raising funds to furnish the interior.
