The Daily Muse
By Dr. Jay Marshall Groat
Instead of a one-page article this month I offer you the opportunity to read a book.
It is my book and I wrote it for you. Indeed, I wrote it for anyone who wants to read it. It took me about five years to write. It is entitled The Daily Muse. It is a collection of daily meditations that stretch from January 1 to December 31: one page written for each day of the year. It is written primarily for busy people who want to start each day of their lives with a five minute conversation with God.
Here is an excerpt from the one page Introduction –
Every day of our lives is a walk in a new museum. Here’s what I mean; literally, to muse is to become absorbed in thought and a museum is a place for learned occupation. Every day, no matter where we are, we walk in a new museum on the Main Street of our life. Each day of our lives is an opportunity to learn about ourselves and the world around us.
Some of our daily lessons are rapturously fulfilling, like the day we meet our life partner, or the first time we say no to an addiction. Other days are bone-breaking tragic, as in the death of a loved one, or receiving chilling news in the doctor’s office.
Life is also a daily non sequitur event. Non sequitur literally means “it does not follow.” When we turn our lives over to God it means we are no longer in control. Life becomes a life-long series of days that do not always follow logical progression. Some days are good, some are not. Life is random, or so it seems……….
I hope someone wants to publish The Daily Muse someday. In the mean time, I offer you the opportunity to read a page per day in this new year of 2012.
Contact the church office if you would like to purchase a copy for $10. This will cover the cost of printing a copy for you on letter-sized paper.
