Service & Justice

First Church has a strong commitment to being a partner in the pursuit of justice and equality for all. As a downtown Akron church, our members and friends work actively to engage social issues of poverty, racism and inequality facing many of our neighbors and community members.

Using the menu on the right, please read more about our initiatives and partner-programs and consider joining us in this vital work of hands-on ministry and advocacy following the example of Jesus who told us in Matthew 25:40: “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.”

MISSION OF THE MONTH

We are now accepting applications for our 2021 Mission of the Month organizations! For ten months each year, the First Church congregation supports the efforts of selected local non-profit organizations through our Mission of the Month program. This program consists of donations that are a combination of a guaranteed $600 from First Church’s Outreach funds, plus any donations offered by our community members for that month’s selected organization. We will work with each month’s selected organization to create social media messaging that First Church will use to let the community know about the work of the organization and to encourage donations. To download the application, please click here. The application deadline is Friday, January 8, 2021.
