Service & Justice

First Church has a strong commitment to being a partner in the pursuit of justice and equality for all. As a downtown Akron church, our members and friends work actively to engage social issues of poverty, racism and inequality facing many of our neighbors and community members.

Using the menu on the right, please read more about our initiatives and partner-programs and consider joining us in this vital work of hands-on ministry and advocacy following the example of Jesus who told us in Matthew 25:40: “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.”

For ten months each year our congregation supports the efforts of a non-profit organization through our monthly Mission of the Month donations. These donations are a minimum of $600 of our church’s Outreach funds plus any monies offered by our community members towards that month’s mission (so donations usually range anywhere from $800-$1200). A representative from each month’s organization is invited to attend our services to meet our members and let us know a little more about the work of the organization.
